From different printed material concerning the history of Japanese ships I was aware of the name and structural features of the Marukobune. I had the opportunity to look at a model of such a boat made by Y.Kondo in the possession of Kanagawa University’s Institute for the Culture of Ordinary People. This overall view arose my interest and my desire to build such a model. Immediately I went to see the Institutes’ director, Professor Kon and obtained information material and directions. As a result I travelled to Biwako Museum where the replica is on display and to Hokudan Sea in Shiga, Nishiarai town where they have a the real boat and the Marukobune pavilion and where I got copies of reference material and took some photos enabling me to build this model.
